That’s why we created Zentient, a not-for-profit technology consultancy committed to delivering a dependable, sustainable and affordable solution for local organisations through a unique hybrid employee-consultant model.

Having listened to the struggles that local organisations face when recruiting or contracting tech talent, we developed the concept of a ZTO. A hybrid between employee and consultant, a ZTO is a Zentient representative placed within an organisation to fill the skills gap and lead a digital transformation.

The ZTO is a member of the organisation’s team in every sense: taking direction, delegating to subordinates and attending meetings. In fact, some people might not even suspect they were from Zentient at all. A ZTO may work anywhere from 4 to 160 hours per month, however, the commitment is usually part-time.

Inevitably, as an organisation is transformed, projects will be conceived that are beyond the scope of what the ZTO can achieve within the monthly allowance of hours. This is when the difference between a CTO and a ZTO becomes plainly apparent. Seeing that the internal team will not be able to deliver the project, the ZTO draws upon Zentient’s pool of talent to assemble a project-specific team. With the knowledge that the ZTO has gained from working within the organisation, they are ideally placed to ensure that the project is delivered successfully.

Once we have established an intimate understanding of an organisation, we begin by strengthening the foundations required for digital transformation. Typically this involves the installation and integration of software, and the automation of processes and reporting. This paves the way for a subsequent implementation of more advanced technologies, such as software or data science projects.
